Good Day Christie Lake neighbors!

Following a very successful Lake Association meeting this year containing some excellent discussion regarding the health and wellness of our Lake, a group of volunteers agreed to get together and form a Lake Management Committee., This committee is a group of volunteers looking at how we (all of us), as stewards of this Lake, can move forward in our efforts to eradicate, or control, the invasive Milfoil and and large Pond Weed species.

The goal of this committee is three fold:
1) to provide factual information for all to be able to review and understand.
2) to educate all lake property owners about these invasive weeds and how, in fact, they are, and will continue to,negatively impact the health of our Lake if not addressed
3) communicate with transparency so everyone has the facts about what needs to be accomplished to regain the quality body of water that we had.

We, the Lake Management Committee group, are in the beginning stages of getting budgetary bids from multiple lake management companies to treat our condition, as well as consulting with the authorities at Lawrence Township to ensure established guideline compliance. There are, and will be, many questions as to how this will be funded, in addition to the process to get this approved.  As we address each step along the way, we will communicate to all through the Christie Lake website, christielakemi.org, as well as the Christie Lake Facebook page. If there are any neighbors that cannot communicate through these methods, please advise us and we will make arrangements to keep you as informed as those that can receive these forms of communication.

We can all agree that we all find the wellbeing of our lake to be “very” important, at a minimum. In this agreement we are all stewards of it for the next generation and should take care of it accordingly for the betterment of the aquatic life, fishing, and general leisure activities that we all enjoy.

Respectfully,

Lake Management Committee members:
Charlie Arnone
Dale Klett
Rhonda Beatty
Doug Tucker

Dear Christie Lake Residences,
PLM conducted an AVAS (Aquatic Vegetation Assessment Survey) last year in preparation, in case treatment approval was secured. They also completed a similar survey in 2014, providing a valuable comparison of long-term trends. The AVAS serves as an inventory of all plant species present in the lake and estimates their density.
According to the data, Eurasian milfoil has increased significantly—its cumulative coverage rose from 3.8% in 2014 to 22.98% in 2024. Additionally, it was found in 54% of shoreline sections in 2014 and has now been observed in 93% of those sections.
This doesn’t necessarily mean the infestation is severe in every area, but milfoil is present to some degree in nearly the entire lake. As an aggressive invasive species, it spreads rapidly and can quickly impact the lake's ecosystem and recreational use.
It’s clear the problem is escalating, and it’s time to respond with proactive management.
